Pax6 gene contains a paired domain and a paired-type homeodomain and is expressed during early neuroretina development. Pax6 is required for multipotency of retinal progenitors. Tansfection of Pax6 into ES or iPS cells induces retinal progenitors. Pax6 alone is sufficient to induce transdifferentiation of ectopic neural retina (NR) from retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells. This lentivirus expresses human Pax6 under the control of the Tet promoter.
